The Gift of Forgiveness
"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." — Colossians 3:13
Forgiveness is one of the most misunderstood gifts in the Kingdom. We often think of it as something we give to the person who hurt us — and in doing so, it can feel like we are letting them off the hook, minimizing the wound, or pretending the pain did not matter.
But forgiveness is not for them. It is for you.
Unforgiveness is a chain. It keeps you tethered to the very moment that wounded you, replaying it, carrying it, letting it shape your present and cloud your future. Forgiveness is the key that unlocks that chain — not because what happened was acceptable, but because you are too precious to remain imprisoned by it.
God forgave you of a debt you could never repay. In that same grace, He invites you to extend what you have received. It may not happen in a moment. It may be a daily choice. But every time you choose it, you step further into freedom.
Prayer: Lord, I choose forgiveness today — not because it is easy, but because You have forgiven me. Heal the places that still hurt. Set me free from every chain of bitterness, and fill those spaces with Your peace. Amen.
